The well appointed and comfortable Yew Hall in the conference venue where we have been meeting for this week’s International Conference for Feba Radio and FEBC. Each organisation meets every two years, but every fourth year we come together for a joint conference. This is third one I have attended.

I have to confess, I am missing my Christmas present from Julie and Ed – a Senseo coffee machine. It makes a great cup of coffee with the minimum of fuss and mess. The coffee here at the Feba and FEBC joint International Conference is not that good, and I am looking forward to being back in my office to get a … mmm … smell that aroma …. fabulous cup of coffee.

Casting Hope is a podcast I do for Feba Radio, and there have been a couple of new shows released since the last time I said anything on this blog. You can listen directly of the page http://www.feba.libsyn.com/ or you can subscribe to the feed http://www.feba.libsyn.com/rss

Norman Brierley and Mark Taylor recently spent two weeks in several locations in Southern Sudan. They went looking to strengthen mission friendships, attend the Cush Consultation, and look for new possibilities for meaningful ministry in Africa’s largest country.

What is in this show?

Mark talks with John Kwech, a leader in the Sudan Community Church – Dr Rob Conda’s presentation about the state of health services in Sudan he gave at the Cush Consultation in Yei, September 2007 – Norman Brierley, Area Development Director for North and East Africa talks about Feba’s possible partnerships with ACROSS and CUSH FOR CHRIST.

The church singing at close of the Podcast was recorded at the Sudan Pentecostal Church in Aweil, in Northern Bahr Al Gazhr State. The cows walking by during interviews were real! Norman survived his being whacked by a football during recording.

Jeremy Rolph, a student at St. Andrew’s High School in Worthing was in the building this week as part of a work experience adventure with Feba – so of course we had to show him how to make a podcast, and get him to do the voice-over bits for us. Well done, Jeremy!

What is in this show?

Chris Binstead talks about his role as Feba’s ambassador in the UK. he also tells us about the Partners for Hope and the Feba Supporters Trip to India in early 2008. You can contact Chris by email at cbinstead@feba.org.uk or by his work phone number +44 (01903) 237281.

The podsafe music in today’s show came from http://www.magnatune.com – they are great!

The band is a group that has been together since the 1970s, and they call themselves Thursday Group. The track is called Turtle Spin, from the CD called Uncle Mean. Quite jazzy, with some funk, swing, and blues stirred in there.

This track is actually used by quite a well known podcast as its signature tune – so the prize of public fame by mention in a future show is up for the first person to email and let me know which podcast uses Turtle Spin as its signature music.

Drive the show with your comments and feedback! Please send your comments and soundbites under 5mb to mailto:mtaylor@feba.org.uk

Paul Vernon working on something important

My new Casting Hope podcast from Feba Radio is out today. The conversation introduces the new 5th generation of the Chrysolite studio – also known as the studio in a suitcase.

What is in this show?

Tim Miller, Tony Knowles, and Paul Vernon talk about their work on the new Chrysolite. Unfortunately, Charles Randall was away on holiday, but we hope to get him onto a future podcast when he can wax lyrical about the design and purposes of the new mixer in the Chrysolite. The podsafe music is from http://www.magnatune.com/.

Aubie Banda works with Radio Chiunjota as part of his mission work in Chiconono. Originally from Malawi, Aubie’s life changed dramatically when as a young Muslim labourer he heard Christian songs being sung in a language he could understand. His story is worth listening to. Custodio Tivane is the recently appointed Director of Feba Radio Mozambique. He has expansive vision for using radio to reach parts of that enormous country with the hope and love of Jesus Christ. Custodio shares a little about his life, and you can just hear his passion as he talks about Feba’s partnership with Radio Chiunjota.

Table Stand of Feba Information in the Hall

We spent the whole day in Littlehampton, and nearby Rustington, yesterday. I was speaking for Feba Radio during the morning and evening services at Parkside Evangelical Church, and it was a really enjoyable day meeting new friends and being able to minister from a pulpit again. One side benefit was that we decided that we really like Rustington as an area to eventually look for a house to buy. We hope to get serious about this search in the next few months, and Rustington will be a chief contender!

Bob Bartz and Frik Veldman Adopting Local Cultural Values in Malawi

On the southern shore of beautiful Lake Malawi, Bob and Frik engage in the local custom of finger greeting. The dominant male in a group offers his baby finger to a visitor, who must grasp it firmly and look directly into the eyes of the other. This strange custom photographed here appears as the two visiting Feba Radio missionaries meet on a beach by the Lake. All other resemblances to local custom and tradition was purely accidental.
